Frequently asked questions

Quick answers for students, parents, and sponsors.

What is FIRST Robotics Competition?

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a high school robotics program. Each January, FIRST announces a new game, and teams design and build a robot to play it. Team 1102 competes in FRC and welcomes students from grades 7 to 12.

Who can join Team 1102?

Students in grades 7 to 12 from across the CSRA. You do not need to attend Aiken High School.

Do I need robotics or coding experience?

No. Most of what students learn, they learn on the team. There is work for every interest, from CAD and machining to code, video, and fundraising.

When and where does the team meet?

At Aiken High School. We meet year-round with short breaks. In the off-season, meetings are Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

What are the subteams?

Engineering (Design), Manufacturing, Programming, Media and PR, and Business.

Is there something for younger students?

Yes. We also run a FIRST LEGO League team that meets Thursdays and Saturdays.

How does the team keep families informed?

We use BAND for announcements, schedules, and reminders. Families get an invitation after a student joins.

How can my company support the team?

Visit the sponsors page for our giving levels, or email us. We can also use donated tools, materials, and mentor time.
