Real robots, built by Aiken students.
M'Aiken Magic is FIRST Robotics Competition Team 1102. Students in grades 7 to 12 from across the CSRA meet at Aiken High School to design, machine, program, and promote a competition robot.
Ways to take part
Pick the program that fits your student's age and interests. All of them are hands-on.
-
FIRST Robotics Competition
Our main team, Team 1102. Students work in five subteams to take a robot from sketch to competition floor, and run the team like a small company while they do it.
-
FIRST LEGO League
A team for students who are not ready for FRC yet. They build and program LEGO robots and learn how a team solves problems together.
-
Off-season events
Between seasons we compete at off-season events, train new members on real equipment, and open our doors to families at events like Robo-Day.
Everyone on the team has a job
A robot team needs more than builders. These are the five subteams.
| Subteam | What students do |
|---|---|
| EngineeringDesign | Designs the robot's structure and mechanisms, and tests ideas on paper and in CAD before anything is cut. |
| Manufacturing | Cuts, drills, machines, and assembles the parts, then keeps the robot repaired between matches. |
| Programming | Writes the code that drives the robot, from driver controls to the routine that runs on its own at the start of a match. |
| Media and PR | Photographs, films, and writes the team's story for social media, sponsors, and competition judges. |
| Business | Plans the budget, finds and thanks sponsors, and organizes outreach and fundraising. |
